The Rupert Murdoch Empire:
His father, Rupert Murdoch is chief executive of News Corporation, a $14 billion media empire that includes newspaper and television companies across the world, including the Times, Sunday Times, Sun and News of the World. He also owns Fox Network, TV Guide, HarperCollins book publishers, 20th Century Fox and Sky News. The company may surrender Sky News in return for full control of multibillion dollar BSkyB.
But the scandal surrounding the closure of the News of the World looks like it will put an end to his son James' short career.
At the MacTaggart Lecture to the Edinburgh International Television Festival, James Murdoch described the BBC as 'state sponsored media' and demanded that the BBC "must be far, far smaller".
Greg Dyke said the Murdoch lecture was a "self-serving" speech of "all bluster and no substance". Murdoch's lecture can be viewed here:
James Murdoch and his fellow executive, Rebekah Brooks have become deeply embroiled in accusations of corruption and phone hacking at the News of the World. Rupert Murdoch closed down The News of the World. The scandal ended News Corp's bid to takeover B Sky B,
It now looks unlikely that son James will take over News Corp from father.
