A British venture capitalist. Former managing partner of the private equity firm Alchemy Partners. Moulton is best known for leading Alchemy Partners' bid to buy MG Rover from BMW in 2000, which ultimately lost out to a rival offer from the Phoenix Consortium.

Joined Citicorp Venture Capital in 1980 and became managing director in London.

He was managing partner of Schroder Ventures from 1985 to 1994, and after a spell at Apax Partners founded Alchemy in 1997. Resigned 2009.

Born 15 October 1950 Stoke-on-Trent. Owns property in London, Kent, Guernsey and France.

Moulton has earned a reputation for outspokenness. He has also spoken out against the favourable tax treatment of private equity.

 

He gave £125,000 to the Tory party and he twice donated £50,000 to Liam Fox when he was shadow defence secretary- (see Gardner UK below)

Better Capital Limited is registered in Guernsey. It’s objective is to generate returns from investing in a portfolio of distressed businesses.

 

In April 2010, Better Capital paid £13 million for Readers Digest.
